Solar Outlook is in release preparation. The app policy below describes the forthcoming store release.
Solar Outlook privacy policy

This website
This introduction website does not use advertising, analytics scripts or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider processes ordinary connection and access logs to serve and secure the site. If you email us, Fastmail processes your address and message so we can reply. Promotional landscape images are generated illustrations.
Who is responsible
Solar Outlook is operated by Spatial Terrain Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 17413034. Registered office: International House, 51 Borough High Street, London, SE1 1NB. Its Google Play developer name is Foragers Friend. For privacy questions, contact simon@solaroutlook.co.uk.
Your location and forecasts
You can enter a place, share a map location, or allow the app to obtain your location. The selected coordinates are sent over HTTPS to our Cloudflare-hosted weather service and Open-Meteo to obtain weather data, and to the European Commission Joint Research Centre's PVGIS service to obtain terrain information. Place searches are sent to Open-Meteo. Shared locations are previews and do not replace your saved parking location unless you choose to use them.
The weather service caches forecasts by location. Exact-location caches are removed after 90 days without use. Coordinates are needed to calculate local terrain and weather; the service does not require your name or an app account. Cloudflare and the data providers necessarily receive network information such as your IP address. Hosting and network providers may process request metadata for service operation and security.
Background location and Bluetooth
Location permission is optional. If you separately enable background location at scheduled equipment check-ins, Solar Outlook can request a parking fix while the app is closed. This associates downloaded equipment history with where you were parked. It is not continuous route tracking. You can disable this in Android permissions or stop scheduled collection in the app.
Nearby-device permissions allow Solar Outlook to discover and read equipment you choose to link. Bluetooth addresses, credentials, equipment readings, local history, panel settings and parking check-ins are stored on your device. The app does not routinely upload your battery or charger readings. Android may defer background work.
Subscriptions
Google Play processes Android subscription payments. Solar Outlook does not receive your card details. The app sends your Google Play purchase token to our service to verify access with Google, acknowledge purchases and check renewal or expiry. Verification tokens are not placed in URLs or application logs. Our service keeps a result indexed by a one-way token hash for up to 15 minutes. The app keeps the purchase token and a time-limited access record locally so purchases can be restored and saved forecasts can work offline.
Optional device-support reports
A report is sent only when you tap Upload report after inspecting its contents. Reports contain Bluetooth service, characteristic and descriptor identifiers, characteristic capabilities, manufacturer identifiers, available standard manufacturer/model/firmware/hardware fields, app version, Android API version and discovery failure codes. You may optionally supply the printed equipment brand, model and category. Do not enter personal details, passwords or serial numbers in those fields.
Reports exclude personal Bluetooth names, Bluetooth addresses, serial numbers, location, passwords, battery readings and raw Bluetooth packets. We store reports privately for up to 180 days to investigate compatibility. An upload sends a notification to our support inbox. Support notifications include the report reference and discovery outcome, not the report contents or optional equipment text. Notification emails may remain in our support correspondence after the underlying report expires. Quote the report reference if you ask us to delete it.
Exports and your choices
Archives you explicitly export can include your readings, equipment addresses and recorded locations. The Android file picker lets you choose their destination. You control any subsequent sharing. Uninstalling or clearing the app's storage removes its local records; files you exported separately remain where you saved them. Removing the app does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
Purpose, legal bases and providers
We use data to provide requested forecasts and subscriptions, operate and secure the service, and investigate reports you choose to submit. Our legal bases are performance of the service contract, your consent for optional permissions and report submission, and legitimate interests in reliability, security and responding to support enquiries. Permission and consent can be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Service providers include Cloudflare (hosting and processing), Open-Meteo (weather and place search), the European Commission Joint Research Centre (terrain), Google (Android, location services where applicable and Play billing), and our email provider. UK settlement names are matched locally using GeoNames data; outside this dataset Android may use its geocoding service. Processing may occur outside the UK, subject to the relevant provider's safeguards.
We do not sell personal information or include advertising or cross-app tracking. Solar Outlook is a planning utility for general audiences, not a service directed to children.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to processing. Contact us using the address above. We may need the report reference because reports deliberately omit your identity. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We will update this policy when the service changes materially.
