Solar Outlook

Your system, wherever you are

Away from the van.
Still in the know.

Keep an eye on your solar and batteries from anywhere with an internet connection. Leave a small M5Stack bridge with your equipment, or put a spare Android phone to work.

Compatible equipment, a connected uploader and an active subscription are needed for online readings.

Two ways to stay connected

Choose what stays
with your system.

Both routes send supported readings to the same private account. Choose the one that suits the equipment and internet connection you already have.

01 / A dedicated little logger

M5Stack System Bridge

A compact, powered-on bridge stays near your equipment and reads supported Bluetooth devices while your usual phone is away.

Internet
Wi-Fi from a router, campsite connection or a separate mobile hotspot.
Power
A suitable continuous USB power supply for your chosen board.
Good for
A small, dedicated monitor that can keep uploading independently.
  1. Choose a supported board. The installer lists the exact M5Stack models and firmware choices.
  2. Install and connect. Follow setup to connect Wi-Fi and add compatible equipment.
  3. Link your system. Claim the bridge with your Solar Outlook account, then check the latest upload on your dashboard.
Set up an M5Stack bridge ↗

Bridge firmware is in beta. A standard M5Stack does not contain its own mobile-data connection. Pairing and device support vary by model.

02 / Give a spare phone a job

An Android phone left behind

A spare Android phone can read nearby equipment and upload while Solar Outlook is running. Use its SIM for mobile data, or connect it to Wi-Fi.

Internet
A working data SIM and signal, or a Wi-Fi connection.
Power
Keep the phone charged, ventilated and within Bluetooth range.
Good for
Trying remote monitoring with a phone you already own.
  1. Install Solar Outlook. Connect the supported charger, battery monitor or sensors nearby.
  2. Sign in to Your account. Assign the phone to your system and check that phone backup is on.
  3. Check a real upload. Open the dashboard on another device using the same email and check the measurement times.

Phone uploads currently run while the app is open. Screen locking, battery saving and the operating system can interrupt them. Test your phone’s behaviour before relying on it unattended. The iPhone and iPad app is available for testing; a Wi-Fi bridge is the independent uploader option.

The useful things, at a glance

What’s happening back there?

Solar coming in

Solar power, panel voltage and reported daily or lifetime energy counters, when the charger provides them.

Your battery

Voltage, current and charge readings from compatible equipment. A supported shunt or BMS can provide measured state of charge.

A feel for the conditions

Temperature, humidity and other supported sensor readings help put your system’s behaviour in context.

Readings depend on the exact device, connection and uploader. The dashboard keeps the measurement time visible, so an older reading stays clearly dated.

More than a number

Spot the patterns.
Keep the context.

Look at latest uploads, daily history and measurement graphs on a screen with room to explore. Overlay compatible readings to compare, for example, battery voltage with temperature.

A phone and a bridge can both contribute readings from the same supported sensor. Solar Outlook keeps their original measurement times, helping you follow the same equipment when you move between local and remote readings.

A few practical questions

Getting connected.

Can I monitor from anywhere?

You can sign in to the website from anywhere with internet access. The phone or bridge beside the equipment also needs internet access to send new readings. If either connection is interrupted, check the last measurement time rather than assuming the figures are live.

Can the M5Stack use a SIM card?

The standard supported M5Stack boards upload over Wi-Fi. Give one Wi-Fi through a mobile router or a separate phone hotspot if there is no fixed connection. Built-in cellular support is not part of the current bridge setup.

Do I need a subscription?

An active eligible Solar Outlook subscription is needed for online uploads and viewing. Local Bluetooth readings remain available in the app. See current subscription options.

What happens if the connection goes away?

A configured bridge keeps a local log and can retry queued uploads when its connection returns. Available history depends on the board, storage and retention settings. A phone also needs the app running to send its readings. Gaps and old timestamps stay visible in the dashboard.

What’s coming next?

Website forecasts, richer history, more device integrations and carefully tested controls are areas of development. Availability varies by platform and build. Visit the planned features board to see the ideas and vote for what matters to you.

A little less wondering

Keep your system in view.

Choose your uploader, link your account and check in from wherever the day takes you.
